Is an NPTE online prep course worth it?

You paid to take the National Physical Therapy Examination and failed. We’ve all been there — literally.

Every one of us at The PT Hustle failed before we succeeded. So we know where you’re coming from when you’re left with this big question:

Is investing in an NPTE online prep course really worth it?
Let’s break it down.

First: Yes, we believe an NPTE online prep course is worth it! Finding the right course, though, depends on what you need.

At The PT Hustle, we offer 2 options:
● Coaching Program
At The PT Hustle, we understand it can be tough to study for the NPTE, especially if you’re working…. This course is for the busy PT student/grad who’s looking for structure, engaging lectures, and a flexible schedule.
NPTE Pass System
If you know the material, but still have a hard time selecting the right answer, this course is for you.

For more general guidelines on NPTE online prep courses, ask yourself these 5 questions.

Do you have a timeline?

If your answer is “no,” an NPTE online prep course is probably a good investment. We’ve all heard the phrase “what gets measured gets done,” and that’s true when it comes to the NPTE. If you don’t set a realistic timeframe for yourself, you’re more likely to get distracted, overwhelmed or busy. Setting a timeline helps you stay focused on your goal: becoming a practicing PT.

If you do have a timeline, make sure it’s realistic. At The PT Hustle, we recommend that if you are 6 months out from your exam day, it is doable to work full time and spend 6 months prepping. However, if you are 10-12 weeks out from your exam day, we recommend not working or a part-time job of less than 25 hours per week while in our Coaching Program.

What’s the pass rate of the NPTE online prep course you’re considering?

Our pass rate for first time test takers is 97%, but for students who have taken the NPTE exam multiple times, pass rates can vary anywhere from 79%-88%. It all depends on your number of attempts and score range provided by the Federation State Board of Physical Therapy (FSBPT).

How many times can you afford to take the NPTE?

Preparing for and taking the NPTE can get expensive.

Let’s break down the costs associated with taking the NPTE exam:
Practice Exam & Assessment Tool (PEAT NPTE): $100
Prometric Fee: $100.30
NPTE: $485
_____________
Total: $685

In addition to the cost of the exam itself, the price of not passing the NPTE is approximately $16,250 in lost PT wages for each attempt. And that doesn’t factor in the emotional toll that starting the process over takes.

On that note, let’s move on to our next question, which is arguably the most important when deciding on an NPTE online prep course.

Are you a good test taker?

If you are, congratulations! Seriously — you have a skill that everyone who’s come through The PT Hustle program had to work long and hard to develop.

If, on the other hand, you aren’t a good test taker, you’re in good company here. Our founder, Dr. Kyle Rice, created The PT Hustle’s 2 courses after a lifetime of failing standardized exams. So when it came to the NPTE, he spent 14 months identifying and then demolishing the mental roadblocks he’d set up for himself. Eventually, he scored a perfect 800 on the NPTE, and he decided to find a way to share his strategy for success with PT students just like him.

Is our NPTE online prep course right for you?

At the very least, we hope parts of it are. But if you’re someone who doesn’t struggle with standardized tests, financial concerns or anxiety, you may be able to find another solution.

If, however, you are ready to get the support you need to pass, check out our tiered course offerings below or drop us a line. We’re always happy to talk.
